Vidanta Riviera Maya disappointment

Grupo Vidanta - Vidanta Riviera Maya disappointment

A thorough review of VIDANTALAND at Riviera Maya

You know how people are so happy and excited when they enter an amusement park such as Disneyland at 9am? And the complete opposite happens around 5pm when both the kids and the adults can't wait to leave?

THAT was our exact experience at Vidanta Riviera Maya. They should rename the place Vidantaland.

Ohhhh, so much to report about this place:

Pros:

1. Lush and Green Landscaping: The resorts grounds were not lavish nor landscaped with flowers. That's probably best considering there are so many children.

It did still manage to create a serene and relaxing ambience.

2. Variety of Activities and food choices: Vidanta Riviera Maya has an area called the Salum which offers a large variety of activities, restaurants, bars, and swimming pools, 2 spas, and a few gyms. Guests have plenty of options to choose from, ensuring theres something for everyone.

3. Excellent Concierge Service: The friendly and easily accessible concierge service is a standout feature.

Having helpful staff who assist with reservations, recommendations, and any other needs is essential for a pleasant stay. Grácias!

4. Nice housekeeping. Twice a day if you request that.

5.

Although we were told the hotel was 98% full, we only experienced crowds from 5-8pm.

6. Wristbands for Convenience: Wearing wristbands can be practical albeit not terribly attractive, especially in photos. Wristbands do ensure easy access to amenities, help with identification, and they streamline transactions. We appreciated this convenience.

7.

Fantastic customer service, Concierge, trolley drivers and weight staff. It was nice to have a resort that still treats their guests with honor. Like Disney, they've got this one down pat.

8. The campus is spread out over a large area, therefore taking a trolley is the fastest and safest way to get from point A to B.

They arrive in a timely fashion which made it tolerable to move from the beach, to the pools, to the eateries, and back to the room again.

9. Water park, Jungala, located on the premises. Sounded fun but we did not have time.

10. Cirque de Soleil also on the premises.

Convenient but read about it in the Cons section below.

Cons:

1. Spread-Out Layout: While the lush landscaping is a pro, the resorts spread-out design can be a drawback. Guests may find it inconvenient to walk long distances or rely on golf carts to get to various facilities. It can be tiring, especially if youre in a hurry or have mobility issues.

2.

Make sure to make dinner reservations when you first arrive. The choices of restaurants and available time slots fill up crazy fast. No rezzie, no dinner for an hour. No bueno for hangry people, especially kids!

3.

Distance to Amenities: Not having essential amenities close by was frustrating. Most attractions are not walkable because the campus is so spread out and such a maze. If you leave something behind in the room, it's a 30 minute turnaround to dining areas, bars, beaches, and the various pools. That was inconvenient.

Guests want easy access to these facilities without having to trek across the entire resort.

4. Golf was $750 for 2 people. Not worth it even though it included a sandwich, cart, and club rental.

5. No beach swimming!

Whattt?? It's completely rocky and uneven and way too hard to get to water that was safe to swim/snorkel. You can put you toes in the sand where the water meets the beach. That's it for going in that beautiful ocean.

6.

Bad experience in the spa that was resolved, but only because I had to insist. I told them I wouldn't leave a bad review if they handled the situation appropriately.

7. Horribly spotty and unreliable wifi that disconnects as soon as you're not actively surfing the web. So frustrating.

8.

The Cirque de Soleil had by far the least amount of ooh-and-ah-moments. It was weird weird weird. And just bland. Look up a YouTube.

Yawn.

9. Their parting gift to us was a busted sprinkler head which gave our cart full of people a hefty spray of landscaping water all over our legs, shoes, and anything that was resting on the floor of the trolley.

In conclusion, this is not the experience I had hoped for but I'm grateful that it had enough pleasant perks to make it tolerable for a week.

User's recommendation: Mobility is an issue. You DO need reservations every night. Careful if upselling. Cirque is not worth it.

Disgusted and misled

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

On 6/26/2017 I made the mistake of attending a presentation at the resort and after spending a whole 8 hours in the presentation they convinced me to buy. I was more interested in walking out of there so I finally said ok.

I tried to cancel the next day and they again took another 8 hours to talk about the options and the mistake I was making for cancelling. They lured me in with promises of maybe being able to stay at the Cirque de Solei hotel that they were building. At the time I had 2 granddaughters that I envisioned possibly bringing, so I was convinced to keep the contract. Then when I got home the Cirque de Solei story changed.

I tried not soon after to cancel and been trying to cancel since. I have to call several places each time because they push people of to a place called Destinations to do their shady business and after I give them a ton of info, they finally find me each time. Today they tell me my contract expires this month, I paid over $7000 for a discount plan that apparently expired this month as well. This $7000 does not cover my stay.

It only gets me a discount for this place. After explaining my granddaughter passed in a freak accident and then COVID kept us home, they tell me they can cancel my contract but they are keeping the $7000 and maybe they will consider letting me travel one week at the rate of $1300 but that it must be approved. So $8300 for one week, not was I was told during the sales presentation. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH VIDANTA!

RUN! Look at other reviews, I wish I had.

ATTEMPTING TO SCAM ME OUT OF THOUSANDS

Original review Oct 01, 2021

One star because I can't choose zero. PLEASE do your research and AVOID this place like the plague.

There are too many beautiful resorts, hotels, all-inclusives, and vacation rentals to risk being EXTORTED for thousands of dollars by Groupo Vidanta properties!

Trust me, simply search "Vidanta reviews" and you will see the truth about these CON ARTISTS and hundreds of people who have been SCAMMED.

My experience: From the moment we stepped foot on the property we were being pressured by sales team members under the guise of helping us get "settled" - they would not let up! We ended up going to a presentation that lasted over 6 HOURS where we were cornered by a relentless salesperson.

No matter how much we declined, the "deal" kept getting better and better to the point where they offered us the "highest level contract" at the price of significantly lesser amount (by hundreds of thousands) as well as perks, benefits, and upgrades supposedly worth thousands of dollars. We still remained hesitant and pushed back as we did not come there to spend any large amounts of money and simply enjoy our vacation at the resort which we stated repeatedly but they insisted this was an incredible deal and was only going to be offered to us for that day otherwise we would lose out.

Then they began to play the tactic of pushing these properties as an investment (which they are absolutely NOT, let's be clear about that), the salesperson had numerous screenshots of supposed Vidanta members who were raking in extra income by the thousands via renting out their weeks on popular travel sites.

We still hesitated about the amount of money they were requiring from us. Vidanta has their own financing which is absolutely terrible with ridiculously high interest rates (even the sales people say they don't recommend it) but the salesmen continued to quell my fears stating that I would be able to look into a vacation ownership program which he claimed MANY of his clients had had success with.

He also SIGNED ME UP FOR A CREDIT CARD to put towards the down payment.

We still were overwhelmed and confused but he promised he would be a resource through all of this and even when we got back to the states (now he's claiming to barely remember who we are). We moved forward with the expectation that I would be able to get financing outside of Vidanta that would allow me to have a low monthly payment and extended payback period.

It was only upon returning home that I contacted the supposed program that I discovered it was NOT NOR HAD IT EVER BEEN IN EXISTENCE.

Hence, I'm locked in to Vidanta's terrible financing. EVERYTHING WAS A LIE. WE WERE PREYED ON AND PURPOSELY MISLEAD AND MANIPULATED SO THAT THEY COULD TURN A PROFIT.

As soon as I discovered this, I called Member Services to RESCIND MY CONTRACT.

Vidanta Member Services is now claiming that I am outside of their "recession window" which is conspicuously hidden in the contract and thus I am legally bound to pay.

THIS PLACE IS A SCAM. Do not step foot on any of their properties.

Grupo Vidanta - Fui enganado
Fraudulent sales tactics.

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

April, 2019

- [ ] WARNING. VIDANTA (VIVDA VACATIONS -TIMESHARE)

- If you have bought from Vidanta, and it is still less than 5 business days since you signed, read this NOW.

- Fraudulent sales tactics deceive you into believing you have bought a good product.

The resort is beautiful, so, if you only want to visit a Vidanta resort using your Right To Use timeshare contract, enjoy it. But remember you spent $20,000 or higher up front, and still have to pay your usage fee plus exchange fee just to use a week at Vidanta. Plus the extra usage fee every 10 years for maintenance. When you add that up and compare to trades or ads on the internet, you would do better to rent from another source when you want to go there, unless you want to go to a Vidanta resort every year for 20 years to get the value.

- If you also want to use Vidanta to trade elsewhere, that is where the costs get out of sight.

WHAT WE WERE TOLD BY THE SALESMAN VERSUS REALITY

- We were told that usage fees would rise a minimal amount, and that some have even been lowered.

- REALITY The contract says usage fees may rise by as much as 5% per year.

Customer Service later told us that fees will rise approximately 2.8-4.8% per year.

- We were told that we would be able to get 2 weeks for 1 deposit of our Vidanta week when trading. When we questioned if we really could get two weeks for one, we were assured that this is true, and we might even get 3 weeks for 1.

- REALITY

- The company gives you Gold level for life and upgrades you to Diamond level with SFX exchange company for the first year only. You CANNOT GET A SECOND WEEK at all unless you are at the diamond level. SO 2 WEEKS FOR ONE deposit only works the first year unless you pay to join Diamond.

In April 2019, the Diamond level costs you $698 for a two year membership. You can get a 10 year Diamond membership for a lot cheaper, but it is still an extra up front cost.

- Also, SFX charges $149 for the first of the two weeks. For second week, the charge is between $169 (for booking a studio less than 30 days ahead) and $899 ( for booking a 2-3 bedroom at least 90 days ahead). SFX recommends that you book at least 9 months ahead if want to be sure to get the place you want, and the longer ahead you book, the higher the price.

- Generally, trading at the Gold level is very limited and expensive compared to Diamond level.

- Google SFX reviews on RedWeek for more information.

- The salesman told us that we could get a multi-year membership for Vida Lifestyles for between $29-39 per year

- REALITY

- As of April 2019 the contract states that the membership is $798 for 2 years.

Gold membership is free for the first 2 years. Then, to avoid paying $798 , you have to buy a multi year membership or a lifetime membership for a LARGE up front fee plus annual fee of at least $49.

- The salesman told us that we could sell our timeshare back to Vidanta in 10 years for $65% of the value that they put on it when we bought it, which was much higher than the what we paid for it. Too good to be true? Yup!

- REALITY

- They will only buy your timeshare for 65% of the value if you buy another full ownership product from them .

And your trade-in value cannot be worth more than 20% of the new product.

- For more information, google Vidanta reviews. If you feel you have been scammed, get advice through TUG at tugbbs.com and google on Facebook a group called VIDA Vacation SCAMS.

I agree with you, Our experience was a real nightmare!! Hopefully, we found a company that supports expats to stop wasting thousands of dollars in timeshares.
